Where to Find Gas Stations in Project Zomboid (Build 42.19)

Vanilla Knox Country · Build 42.19 · Town & highway station pins · Finite pumps by default

Direct answer Gas stations sit on highway edges and town commercial strips under brands such as Fossoil, Gas 2 Go, and Thunder Gas. Use the tables below to jump to map pins, then remember: pumps need power, hold a finite amount of petrol, and may start empty depending on sandbox settings. After the blackout, place a generator that can power exterior tiles before you try to refuel a car or fill cans.

How to read the pins

Map pins and in-game position Each pin opens the B42 map viewer at that station area. Approximate in-game ground coordinates are about 10× the listed pin (example: pin 607, 531 → roughly 6070, 5310). Fine-tune inside that small block once you are on the ground. Pins mark a search center, not a guaranteed pump tile count.

Brand labels (Fossoil, Gas 2 Go, Thunder Gas) mark station areas. Pump islands and convenience rooms can sit a few tiles off the listed pin, so treat each coordinate as a search center rather than a single exact tile.

How gas pumps work in Build 42.19

Player taking fuel from a Project Zomboid gas pump into a petrol container
Powered pumps can fill vehicles and liquid containers. Unpowered pumps do not dispense fuel.

Power requirements

  • While grid power is still on, a pump on powered tiles can refuel a vehicle and fill petrol containers.
  • After the electricity shutoff, the pump square must have power again. With the default sandbox option Generator Working in Exterior enabled, a connected generator can power outdoor pump tiles.
  • If exterior generator power is disabled in sandbox, outdoor pumps will not take generator power even if a generator is running nearby.
  • Default Apocalypse generator range is about 20 tiles horizontally and a few floors vertically — place the generator so the pump tiles sit inside that bubble.

How much fuel is in a pump

  • Each fuel pump holds up to 22,000 petrol units.
  • Sandbox Initial Gas Station Amount (and advanced min–max) controls how full pumps start. Apocalypse-style presets use a finite range — for example min 0.0–max 0.8 of capacity — plus a chance for individual pumps to start empty.
  • Infinite Gas Pumps only applies if you enable that sandbox option. It is off on standard Apocalypse-style settings.
  • Empty pumps and drained stations are normal. Bring spare cans and treat vehicle tanks as a second fuel source.
Arriving at the pin is not the same as getting fuel Clear the lot, check pump stock, confirm power, then refuel. If the pumps are dry, siphon vehicles instead — see the siphon guide.

High density Louisville stations are numerous but dangerous. Treat each pin as a short smash-and-grab after you secure an exit route. Nearby near-duplicate pins for the same strip are listed once below.

B42 highway & expansion towns

Build 42 expands the playable west and south. The pins below are good search centers for pumps and station buildings in those corridors. Expect more rural spacing and fewer backup loot buildings than Louisville.

Fuel-run tips

If a station is dry or unpowered, a hose and nearby vehicles provide a backup fuel source.
  1. Scout before committing a generator. Check whether any pump still has stock. A dry station is not worth a loud generator setup unless you need the building as a forward base.
  2. Bring empty petrol containers and a hose plan. Fill cans from a powered pump when possible; otherwise siphon cars and park them as a rolling fuel cache.
  3. Clear sightlines around the pump island. Refueling and filling cans leave you still for long enough that a single behind-the-pump zombie ends the run.
  4. Prefer highway stations after you leave the starter towns. Rural brand zones often have lower density than Louisville strips, but also fewer spare parts and weapons nearby.
  5. Sandbox hosts: if fuel feels too scarce or too free, adjust Initial Gas Station Amount, empty chance, or Infinite Gas Pumps — standard Apocalypse settings do not use infinite pumps.
What these pins cover Pins mark station areas for navigation — not every individual pump tile. Remaining fuel and zombie counts depend on your save. For interactive browsing, use the maps hub and each town’s POI page.
